Athens State University will hold its summer graduation Saturday at 9 a.m. The commencement ceremony will be on campus in front of Founders Hall.
Alabama’s Public Service Commissioner Susan Parker will be the keynote speaker for the graduation. Parker has served as a PSC commissioner since 2006 following her role as state auditor. She was also the first woman in the state to be nominated for the U.S. Senate.
Parker is no stranger to public education as she worked at Calhoun Community College for more than 20 years. She also studied at night while working full time to receive her associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
More than 200 graduates are expected to walk on Saturday.
