Reelect Susan Parker—She’s Making a Difference!

Commissioner Susan Parker 008Making A Difference –What Susan has done for Consumers!

Being on the PSC is one of the most challenging positions I have ever had.  I see the job as one that not only improves peoples’ lives, but also protects their jobs.  The last three years have been tough times for all of us.

When I came into office we were facing run away prices for coal, natural gas, cement, copper, steel; all important components in making energy.  I had to roll up my sleeves and go to work, fast.  I have worked hard to squeeze every decrease we could and to help consumers cope with challenging issues.  I’m proud we are still below the SE average in cost per kilowatt.

Consumer Education Initiative

Informing Consumers about Energy Efficiency

“I agree with Jim Rogers, CEO of Duke Energy, ‘energy efficiency is the fifth fuel’.”  If we can improve energy efficiency in our homes and businesses, we can save our environment and save ourselves money at the same time.

That is why I launched the Consumer Education Initiative, CEI, a statewide education program to help Alabamians become better informed about how to be more energy efficient.  Becoming better managers of our energy sources can slow down the need for more energy—small measures can reap great benefits.  Thus far, thousands of senior citizens and community leaders have been informed about tips for saving energy in their homes and businesses.  We have much to do and we are continuing to work every day to reach others.
