Susan Parker Seeks Second Term on PSC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 17, 2009

MONTGOMERYSusan Parker formally announced today she will seek re-election to the Alabama Public Service Commission Place 2.

“I have worked hard for the consumer, but there is still much work to be done.  I want to continue my efforts to make a difference for Alabamians,” said Parker.

“People are facing difficult times. They are looking for every possible way to save money. That’s why I started the Consumer Education Initiative and compiled a Customer Bill of Rights. Each day I look for new ways to help every Alabamian learn more about energy efficiency and how to save money on their utility bills. I have fought to keep energy rates as low as possible while insisting that service remains reliable and dependable.

“The PSC gives me a unique opportunity to serve not only the people of Alabama but the Southeastern region and the rest of the country as well.  I have worked to move into regional and national leadership positions so I can be an advocate for Alabamians at this critical time,” stated Parker.

Although Parker is only in her first term on the PSC, she is currently serving as President of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. She was recently elected as 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners which means she will become president of this prestigious national organization in 2012.  In January, Parker will also become President of the Chicago-based Gas Technology Institute Advisory Board.

Parker served as Alabama State Auditor from 1999-2003 and was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2002. She was elected to her first term on the PSC in November 2006. She and her husband, Paul, are natives of Morgan County and have been married for 29 years.
